"Grandpa, Tell me more about yours inventions!"
"Yes... I was an inventor once, *scoffs* what a fool I was...".
"Why do you say that? Aren't inventors really cool!"
He adjusted his glasses to take a better look, "Mateo... was it? I once thought I could play with time. Only to have it play me"
"....", Mateo sat excitedly.
John started rocking in his chair as he closed his eyes remembering, "It all started in 1941..."
Year 1941
John
I sat down unable to drown all the noise inside my head. I spent years trying to invent the machine , I even refused other projects because of this one dream, a dream that could make history. They were right...with no investors, no money, I'm here wasting away with hunger and desperation.
Is this how it ends for me? I lost my balance and almost tripped on the stairs when a hand grabbed a hold of me. Everything was a blur, my vision slowly stared to fade with the last thing I remember was someone with a blue hat and a dress asking me to wake up before loosing consciousness.
I woke up to a wooden ceiling. My mind was a haze as I tried to get my sense back. I allowed my eyes to wonder and sit up straight as I found a woman sitting on a chair beside the bed I was laying.
She wore a beautiful blue dress. With fair skin and blonde curly hair, she looked absolutely stunning. I watched her with this new fascination as she scrunched her eyebrows in her sleep. I reached out to caress her eyebrows, just then she woke up and welcomed me with her pearl-like smile. "You are awake, good, how do you feel? how many fingers am I holding up?"
Hearing her honey laced voice made me go into some sort of trance. I ended up blurting, "You are beautiful". She laughed, Oh God, she laughed.
"I know darling. But I asked how you were"
I blushed and completely embarrassed I said something like, "Uh...yeah I'm good!"
"Good, I'm Rose and I found you pasing out outside the bank I was visiting, you were very out of it and I couldn't get you to wake up, so I brought you to my home. Do you have any other questions?"
"I-uh well-th-thank you. I owe you one but do you usually go arround and ah... help misserable men and bring them home?"
Rose laughed and I loved every sound of it, "No, I just think you are special"
"Me, special?",I laughed dryly,"I think you are a bad judge of character".
"I'm broke, depressed, a looser with failed inventions and no investors. A word of advice, be careful the next time you decide bring someone home".
"You know John, I believe that you have one of the greatest minds in this era and you'll achieve great things. I'll help you".
"And how do you plan on doing that?"
"I'll be your investor and provide you blueprints, you'll just have to make them for me".
I just couldn't believe my ears. I was finally getting a gig and that too at the hands of this amazing, kind, mesmarzingly beautiful woman. If she had asked me to jump, I would've gladly done it. But something about the way she said it with so much trust that I started to harbour hope for the first time in months, I started thinking of all the new possibilities that presented before me, I was going to be busy....very busy.
At that time, I didn't realise, how did she know my name because I never once introduced myself.
