Year 1943
John
I was concerned. Rose's coughing fit had increased tension times fold. No matter how many times I suggested her for us to visit a doctor, she was always decline saying that she was okay. But I knew she was growing week and frail.
Me on the other hand, I was surprisingly making good progress with my invention. It was as if she was my lucky charm.
...
I was working as usual when I heard a loud *thud* coming from the kitchen. I rushed in only to find Rose sprawled on the ground with drops of blood everywhere. I took her in my arms and she said in the faintest voice, "I know how this looks, but don't worry, everything's going just as planned".
"Planned? What are you talking about? You are sick we need to go to a doctor!"
"No! Listen to me, what I am about to tell you. I am from the future. I used the time machine, the same one you are currently building. You make it possible for us to travel back. Isn't that lovely, my dear husband".
Tears stung in my eyes, "I don't get it, if you are here from the future why are you like this? Just why have I not saved you yet"
"Shh... This was meant to be. You'll meet me again. I may not recognise you but you will. I have to go now. I can't let you see me fade away. And always *coughs* remember, I am with you, always... Don't follow me".
She got up wobbling on her feet yet made it outside the room, by the time I had registered what had happened, I ran outside, but she was nowhere to be found.
...
Like Rose had said I met her once again in 1950. She had worn the same blue dress I saw her in, when we first met. I wiped my tears and approached her with a bouquet of flowers.
"Do I know you?"
"No, Not yet anyways, beautiful", I winked.
"What a creep!" , she walked away.
I persued her, day and night, she might've thought of me as stalker at this point but surprisingly she opened up to me.
...
We sat under the stars, holding hands in silence. She started, "I've noticed the way you see me. It's as if I'll disappear and sometimes I see so much pain in your eyes. Do I remind you of someone that you lost?"
"..."
I didn't have a reply for her question. I cried and cried. She rocked me in her arms without asking any questions yet it felt as if we talked all night long.
